- Transfer Station in Grand Junction, CO
In October of 2009 the sculpture “Local Motion” was installed for the GVT Station in Grand Junction, CO. After meeting with a committee member representing the community and a Grand Valley Transit representative at the site and listening to their concerns, I realized that there was limited space for artwork within this busy pedestrian area. Therefore I designed an elevated interactive work that would not impede pedestrian movement, was highly visible, and that discouraged graffiti or other vandalism. Because many young people and families use the bus system the sculpture was designed to welcome public interaction. Viewers of all ages and physical abilities can rotate the upper sculptural forms a full 360 degrees by turning a ship’s wheel located on the steel support column.
